MACA | Maketū Update
The Maketū MACA application was originally anticipated to progress to a High Court hearing during the 2025/26 period. However, recent amendments to the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) legislation, and the wider impacts these changes are having across all MACA proceedings nationally, have resulted in delays and uncertainty around hearing schedules. At this stage, hearing dates for the Maketū application have not been confirmed.
Despite this uncertainty, it remains important that the kāinga continues to gather, record, and organise potential evidence in preparation for when the process resumes. This includes kōrero tuku iho, historical records, maps, and evidence of customary use and association. Maintaining this momentum will help ensure the Maketū application is well positioned once the Court timetable becomes clearer.
