What this means for all of us
With heavy rain falling on already wet ground, and strong winds forecast across multiple regions, we could see:
Fallen trees and debris
Surface flooding and slips
Disruptions to power and communications
Dangerous coastal and sea conditions
What you can do now
These are practical steps we can all take to be ready:
Secure or bring inside anything that could be lifted by strong winds
Clear gutters and drains if it is safe to do so
Prepare a grab bag with essentials, medications, and important documents
Have torches and a battery-powered or car radio ready
Charge phones and devices ahead of time
Check in on neighbours, especially kaumātua and those who may need support
If you are in an exposed or flood-prone area and feel unsafe, consider relocating early to whānau or friends
Leaving early is always safer than travelling during severe weather.
